URBAN ROOTS COMMUNITY GARDENING TRAINING PROGRAM: NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!
Applications are now being accepted for Urban Roots, a 9-week course designed to train community leaders in horticulture and community organizing skills. During this hands-on class students learn the skills they need to grow and maintain strong, vibrant and sustainable community and school gardens. Classes are held on Saturdays from 9 am – 2 pm starting February 6th. Interested gardeners must fill out an application as space is limited.
While it may not be the best time to put your shovel into the soil, it is the perfect time to start planning to start or expand gardening projects before spring. Learn from an interesting mix of teachers, including farmers, professors, architects, and experienced community gardeners, while working through hands-on activities like garden design and compost building. Students will also build a web of support, resources and knowledge that lasts far beyond the length of the program.
If the idea of starting a community garden in Wayne County gets you excited look for the Urban Roots application at www.detroitagriculture.org. For more information contact Nicki at 313-285-1250 or nicki.greeningofdetroit at gmail.com. Applications are due January 22nd.
