Adamah

The Adamah vision was originally crafted as part of a collaboration between The Boggs Center and architecture students and professors at the University of Detroit and the Detroit Collaborative Design Center. But they didn't simply create the vision themselves - the vision came from the people of the community. Architectural students from U of D began a block-by-block survey in the near-east-side area that the project originally focused on. It is from this work that the Adamah vision began to be pulled together.

The original Adamah plan is documented in the highly inspiring and well-written Metrotimes article, "Down a Green Path."

From the energy created by this article, monthly meetings commenced in late 2001 - but then ceased in November 2003. Many good things happened in parallel with Adamah's breathtaking vision (for example, Earth Walk). Unfortunately, it was too difficult to realize with the available resources. Sustainable Detroit hopes to continue some of Adamah's ideals - through inspiration and networking.
